Well, I can say that I was hooked the very second I saw Zork 1, 2, 3, Hitchhikers Guide... I can remember the thrill of typing in the proper response and the hard drive starting to churn. I also remember begging our friend Chuck down the street to log into his dad's internet account (was it America online?) it was certainly no internet account of today's standards, it was a command prompt and a modem, and we'd beg Chuck to get us hints. All of this was done on Frank's Commodore 64-- so I figure we (me and other siblings) were too desperate and irritating to say the least. So Frank, where did you get that Zork 1? In what year?

Is it the computer game I used to play on my apple IIc? I think it was called Zork or something...

Gnip Gnop?
Oh God, I wish I had done a documentary on Gnip Gnop!

1984.
The internet didn't really exist yet, certainly not AOL. I think Chuck was dialing in to the AT&T mainframe.
