Ringo-ing, going, gone!

Apparently Ringo Starr walked off the set of Regis and Kelly due to a dispute over the length of a song he was to perform on the show. Ringo wanted to do the 3 minute version while show producer Gelman insisted on a 2 minute version. This resulted in the best of all solutions... the 0 minute version. I, for one, applaud Gelman's hard line in the sand on this. I think Ringo should be appreciative of any producer willing to subject his studio and TV audience to even two seconds of the discordant screechings of Mr. Starr.
Does anyone else have an aversion to Ringo's decades' long insistence on singing despite having one of the worst recorded voices in the history of music? I mean, "Octopus's Garden" I'll give you that one, but other than that, I'm out. I continue to be amazed that his Beatle fame alone has allowed him to keep grabbing mics anywhere and everywhere he wants and touring around the country. Please, someone enlighten me. I don't want to be hatin' on Ringo too much, but sometimes a drummer should just keep hitting the goatskins. I think... sheepskins? I don't know. I'm a karaoke guy, personally.

Chris, at first I was supportive of the musician fighting the fight, to have his art performed the way he wanted it, no compromises.
Then, I realized. You're right. Do they let others perform for three minutes? That's three minutes left we have to look at the blonde dancing monkey skull that is Kelly Ripa.
my sense of ringo is that he's a good drummer, was a decent actor and has had some success putting together allstar bands. he should porbably stick to drumming more and singing less. a couple vocals of his i like a lot: "act naturally" and another i can't remember. he seems well liked, the solo beatles and big benefits always wanted him on drums.
The Pete Best Band tours very actively, including regular stops in Albany. Let's get them on Regis and Kelly.
I always liked, "It don't come easy," from George Harrison's (and a host of others) "Concert for Bangla Desh."
I bought Ringo's recent best-of because I have best-of's by John and Paul and George, and because "Photograph" is an excellent song. And I was disappointed by the amount of dreck and bad singing on the album. Though I stand behind "Photograph."
And I also must admit to enjoying this "Liverpool" single he's performing (your next chance to catch it: Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, Thursday night). I think Eurythmics' Dave Stewart helped him write a song more in his range. And it holds its own with Paul and George's "I used to be a Beatle and now I'm old" songs. Which John would be writing these days too, let's face it.
Spelling "Eurythmics" was much harder than I imagined.
Jack,
Point well taken. I can see where Dave Stewart would guide Ringo gently into his zone vocally and tonally. Stewart is sort of like Rick Rubin in that way. He knows how to take someone else and bring out the best in them.
I won't even try to spell that band that starts with an "E" that Dave was in. That's a double Googler. The first time you Google it, you actually spell it wrong, but there are so many other people across the net that do the same that you get a positive list of hits with the wrong spelling.
