Boredom Lands Me On Wonkette
So last night I was bored, and Amanda and the baby had already gone to bed. For whatever reason I decided to follow up on a notion I'd formulated a few days earlier: Ron Paul resembles Ian Mckellen. I took a still of Sir Ian as Gandalf in Lord Of The Rings and superimposed Ron Paul's face over it using Photoshop. I threw in a sound clip from the film and a few bells and whistles and threw it up on Youtube within the hour. I sent the link to Wonkette just for laughs, and it ended up on their front page today - Fellowship Of The Nerds.
Anyway, it was kind of a nice, cheap thrill for a striking writer with no outlet. Does this make me a scab?

very cool. even after reading the post, i had to watch for a while before realizing it was ron paul.
Chris, Ron Paul aside, I have two kids who would love to take some classes in stop motion pro here, btw. (that would be Isa and her friend)
John,
Funny, but I did contemplate morphing the picture for that very reason so you could see it transition from one to the other. Without that context, it does fool people. It's fascinating to me how the mind works in that regard. If you go and look here at the actual picture of Ian you'll see that clearly there is a difference.
Ian as Gandalf
However, when you're only presented with the one option in isolation it sort of tricks your mind into completing the recognition that it wants to believe.... that it is in fact Ian Mckellen as you recall him from the film.
Honestly, it makes you realize how someone could so easily pick the wrong guy out of a police line up and send him to prison for life.
In point of fact, if you read the Wonkette editor's subheading he seems to not know whether it's Ron or not. He then proceeds to bash the creator of the piece as another "Paultard" to which I take no offense. I'm more of an Obamatard. Maybe a Hillarytard. Definitely not a Graveltard though. That guy's wackadoo.
Bernie, I have no knowledge of stop motion pro. Is this a program? I have actually never dabbled in stop motion other than my night at your house with your resident expert. I find it fascinating though.
This guy on youtube is the reigning king of all things stop motion, and this particular video is a great profile of him done for European TV. They explain how he does it and show some examples. Good stuff.
Stop Motion King!
Chris, the stop motion pro is easy, it's the sound part that is hard... which does not use stop motion pro... you can use anything!
Ron Paul equals Gandalf?
Well that might help explain this.
