I hate cyclists

Cyclists in Topanga Canyon are very aggressive, demanding to be treated like vehicles...if vehicles rode four abreast on winding mountain roads and flipped you off for so much as toot-tooting that you'd please like to pass on a straightaway. Slower traffic is supposed to use turnouts--there are signs posted everywhere. I use them all the time to let faster cars pass me. I have never once seen a cyclist use a turnout. Please note that bicycles are not used here for transportation. This is recreational biking only. So what explains the massive chips on these idiots' shoulders?

Recreational biking describes the renters down by the Santa Monica Pier. What you are up against are competitive bikers. For them to stop or even yield would mean disrupting the cadence and the heart rate. Unfortunately this mindset results in many injuries and deaths, not to mention gaudy attire.
As a commuting cyclist I am a fringe character even among cyclists.
I have tried to explain this to John many many times, to no avail. You'd think the neon and pink or the local car dealership on every back would help him make sense of it all. But no, he continues to want them to let him pass.
they're not that fast.
Elizabeth and I take part in the MS ride every year. There are countless numbers of these folks. Though obviously for charity they seem to treat it like the Tour du Pont. As though passing me on my 40 year old no gear schwinn with a basket is an accomplishment. By mile 5 there are always several on the pavement upended and bleeding. I can't help but chuckle.
exactly! this is what we need more of--chuckling at bleeding cyclists.
What I find the most annoying are the cyclists that decide the best time to ride is at night... wearing all black... with no lights or reflective material whatsoever. Like ninja Lance Armstrongs. If I were to hit them I have to admit that I'd feel less guilt than hitting a daytime rider.
Finally someone being honest and talking about how the cyclist refuse to use their BIKE LANE. Here in Napa they ride 4 wide across the road too and they are the ones causing the accidents not the other way around. I believe the term 'single file' applies here when a car comes up from behind, come on people!
we don't have bike lanes, so they rationalize that it's safer to go four abreast--that way, they'll be seen, and cars won't try to squeeze past. it's bullshit, but it's their rationalization. but if there's actually a bike lane, and they're not staying in it, that's an added level of hostility. hi, tori!
Here in Topanga, they yell at me when I'm not passing them (four abreast on a blind curve-- no thanks) and they yell at me for passing them as well.
In short, the cyclists are always yelling at me.
